The Final Norte of the Season?

If you are in the Riviera Maya, you may have had to put a blanket on the bed overnight.  We had a rather strong Norte for this late in the season pass through yesterday.  It all started with the first real rain in a month; see my post on that event.

You can see that the temperature at the Navy weather station dropped during and after the rain on the afternoon of May 4th.  It still got pretty hot yesterday (May 5th) with a high temperature of about 30C (86F).  But as you can see it definitely got chilly last night with a low temperature of about 16C (60F).

Looking at the wind chart below we see that the wind shifted to northwest after the rain and has been between northwest and northeast since then.

That wind shift is what brought in the cooler and less humid air.  You can see in the chart below that the humidity dropped to 40% yesterday (May 5th) afternoon.  This is extremely dry compared to what it has been (about 65% during the afternoon for the previous week).

Finally, here is a chart from the Weather Underground Personal Weather Station in Puerto Aventuras.  Circled in red is the period right after the rain ended.  You can see temperatures (red line) dropped during the rain and continued to drop after the rain.  And that the wind shifted from southerly to northerly as the rain ended.  The blue oval highlights the steady drop in dew point (a measure of the amount of water the air can hold) over the last 2 days.  And finally the green oval shows the wind has been mostly northerly during this cool, dry period.
